Short while ago google had changed their ranking algorithm, in the hope of offering it’s search users better results, google engineers published blog post which indicated there were 11.8% organic search results will be affected, in another word, almost 12% of google search results are useless or of low quality. They planned and started the update about one year ago, no wonder I saw a few of my keywords’ ranks dropped like a rock, on the other hand almost all keywords promoted by contextual links are not affected, some of the keywords even ranked better than before, it’s almost a sure thing that plain link building loses all it’s attraction, at least in the eye of google.
Now what on earth is plain link building and how do people do it? a lot of marketing companies did and are doing the plain link building, they add your links to those linking websites without context, these websites will only be updated when new links are being added, almost all of them are garbage, we call these sites link spamming sites. New google algorithm most likely will punish these link spammers, any links on them will be affected too.
A few real world examples will help to explain what I said. When I got into online marketing long time ago, I needed to rank the keyword, Truck Accessories, at that time almost every body was doing plain linking campaign, a lot of sites I used had too many links, and the worst thing is that those sites are linking sites only and had no content, not even crap content. In the beginning, the ranking of the keyword in question rise pretty fast, finally the rank improved a lot, the honeymoon lasted until google changed it’s mind. Now let’s look at another keyword, chain pullers, we promoted this keyword with articles and blog posts, with very few plain links, you can imagine how this keyword ranks. Now contextual links win the battle, then what? In fact the only thing matters here is content, as long as you dole out high quality content, you will attract readers as well as search engines. It’s never too late to build good blogs for business purpose, for instance let’s examine this one, baby strollers , I build it as a hobby and kept adding good or mediocre content, and to my surprise, I have high ranks for some of competitive keywords. Now you can see, creating quality content and article marketing is what we have to do to get great result. Now imagine you have your own blog network, such as Trucking Accessories, then it will be easier to do article marketing.
Bottom line is that you should create great content, publish and share with people, in the mean time advertise your business with your content, this strategy will prevail in short or long term. Whatever you do, you will need persistence and patience, long term strategy is required to improve anything of significance, it doesn’t matter you’re doing SEO or advertising your business, keep writing, publishing, sharing and creating, you will see the day of success.
